Description The Project will help: (i) complete the improvements to the ring road by constructing a 143 km section from Leman to Bala Murghab; (ii) initiate the organizational restructuring and business process reengineering of MPW; (iii) produce annual investment plans and programs; and (iv) formalize contractor and consultant registration and evaluation.
Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy This is part of ADB's road infrastructure development strategy in Afghanistan, and the road connect to some of the major regional trade corridors through Tajikistan and Pakistan.
Impact Increased domestic and international trade and personal travel.
Outcome Progress Toward Outcome
Higher level of mobility and increase in freight volumes and passenger transport services; and increased reliability and level of service on section of regional road network in northern Afghanistan. --
Outputs and Timeframe Status of Implementation Progress (Outputs, Activities and Issues)
1. Construction of part of the last missing link of the regional Ring Road
2. Emergency and ancillary works on Andkhoy-Qaisar road completed
3. Roads maintained according to pre-established performance criteria
4. Management information system (MIS) installed at MPW 		Procurement of civil works services is ongoing under Grant 0244.
Under a change in scope the emergency and ancilliary civil works in Packages 1 and 2 were substantially completed in June 2010.
The maintenance component will be cancelled.
The MIS project component will be cancelled.
