| Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy | The Safeguard Policy Statement (SPS) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was approved by the Board of Directors in July 2009 and became effective in January 2010. As a key policy feature, the SPS places major emphasis on the need to assist DMCs to strengthen their own safeguard systems and enhance their implementation capacity in addressing environmental and social risks associated with development projects. The SPS comes at a critical time when ADB is scaling up its assistance to DMCs in promoting environmentally sustainable and inclusive economic growth. This proposed technical assistance (TA) is designed to implement the SPS requirements for the strengthening and effective implementation of country safeguard systems (CSS). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
