Impact Increased rice availability and security in project sites of the participating developing member countries (DMCs).
Outcome Increased rice farmers' capacity to reduce pre-harvest losses caused by plant hopper and virus outbreaks and post-harvest losses in the project sites in participating DMCs.
Outputs and Timeframe For reduced vulnerability of rice crop due to pre-harvest losses, key outputs are: (i) New field resistance screening method and germplasm with durable field resistance to plant hoppers and virus diseases identified for incorporation into new elite breeding lines; (ii) strategies to manage virus spreads in rice fields developed and implemented; (iii) ecologically based management of pest outbreaks developed, implemented and key sustainability indicators of biodiversity and ecosystem services monitored; (iv) country-specific strategies in managing viruses implemented; and (v) NARES partners' research and extension capacities in plant resistance, ecological management of outbreak pests, insecticide resistance research, sociological aspects and communication enhanced.
