Summary of Environmental and Social Aspects
Environmental Aspects The project is classified as environmental category B in accordance with ADBs Safeguard Policy Statement (2009). An environmental assessment for the project has been carried out in accordance with the PRC regulatory framework and ADBs Environmental Assessment Guidelines. An initial environmental examination report was prepared, summarizing the findings of the domestic environmental assessment reports for each of the nine subprojects and a due diligence review of associated facilities. Extensive public consultations involving stakeholder and focus group discussions were undertaken twice during project preparation. Potential adverse impacts during the rehabilitation and operation phase include limited standard construction impacts and unsafe disposal of dredged sediments, construction spoil, wastewater, and solid waste. The possible adverse environmental impacts will be prevented or minimized to acceptable levels, through the implementation of an environmental management plan that includes adequate mitigation and monitoring arrangements.
