Description The primary goal of the project is to accelerate the development process of the Lao PDR by linking its economy to two rapidly growing economies of the region. A direct link between PRC and Thailand via the Lao PDR will reduce transport costs in the regional influence area, and increase the efficiency of vehicles, goods and passengers traffic. The road will help to reduce poverty by providing access to markets, extension services, income and employment opportunities, thus enhancing development potential.

The project scope will include upgrading the existing 220 kilometer road between Houayxay to Boten, capacity building for the provincial level officials in environment and social monitoring and a social action plan for the ethnic minorities in the area.
